Board Induction and Handover ceremony

As part of its commitment to promoting effective governance and strategic leadership, UMA SACCO conducted an induction session for its Board Members aimed at enhancing their understanding of the cooperative legal framework and corporate governance principles.

Board Members were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Cooperative Societies Act to enable them to make informed decisions in the best interests of the SACCO and its members. The session covered key governance matters, including the management of dormant members, member benefits beyond dividends and interest, and the prudent management of the SACCO’s assets and financial resources.

Facilitating the session, Mr. Dison Okumu provided valuable insights into the distinction between power and authority, emphasizing the principles of good corporate governance, accountability, and responsible leadership. His presentation highlighted the critical role of the Board in providing strategic oversight, safeguarding members’ interests, and ensuring the sustainable growth of the SACCO.

The induction forms part of UMA SACCO’s ongoing efforts to equip its leadership with the knowledge and skills necessary to uphold sound governance practices and drive the institution towards continued excellence and long-term sustainability.
