My name is Dr. Mikago Peter, I am 29 years old and currently working with The AIDS Support Organization (TASO). I am stationed at Jinja Center of Excellence as the Medical Services Technical Lead. I joined TASO on World AIDS Day in 2016 as a medical officer, 4 months after completing my internship from Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
I was lucky to attend a regional Uganda Medical Association meeting (U.M.A BUSOGA) as a young doctor in 2017 where I learned about UMA SACCO through one of the presentations. The following week my colleague at work then, Dr. Apio Alice testified to me how the doctor’s SACCO loan had enabled
her to secure a plot in Wakiso and also acted as atop up for her first car purchase. Her humble progress encouraged me to join the Doctors’ SACCO. She guided me to first subscribe to U.M.A and thereafter UMA SACCO. I later subscribed to UMA and the SACCO (UMA SACCO: 00354) on the same date.
I then kept remitting my savings and shares to the SACCO on a monthly basis to see my account grow
Realizing the fortune in UMA SACCO.
I was privileged to be a beneficiary of the doctors’ estate in Mukono which was procured by the SACCO. I secured plot number 15 in doctors’estate-Mukono initially on credit with
the help of the SACCO in 2018
In 2019 I got my second loan from UMA SACCO to enable me to expand my sugarcane plantation business from 10 to over 35 acres. I decided to expand this business because it requires minimum supervision bearing in mind Doctors are very busy people and sugarcanes are drought resistant. In 2020, I have secured a loan from UMA SACCO as atop up to acquire a truck that can ferry at least 10 to 15 tonnes of sugarcane per route.
This will enable me to continuously earn some side income of at least 3million Uganda shillings monthly from only transport leave alone my 30
acres of sugarcanes and my monthly income.
My future plans.
I envisage having a transport company with a fleet of about 5 trucks in the next 3 to 5 years, expanding my acreage of sugarcanes, injecting more capital into my medical clinic business and further commercializing my
piggery project while patronizing the Doctors’ SACCO.
My plea to Doctors.
I encourage all doctors out there to join UMA SACCO, buy shares and deposit savings, earn interest on your own money. We need to patronize the SACCO. Martin Luther King said we must learn to live together as brothers or perish as fools. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. I thank all doctors who have joined UMA
SACCO and those who have further encouraged more members to join. Together we can. UMA SACCO needs all doctors! Self-help is the best help.
